You have the option to transfer a cPanel website to WebHostingPeople effortlessly. cPanel functions as a control panel utilized for managing your hosting. Our Standard Web Hosting package includes the ever-popular cPanel. This Linux control panel is widely used in the web hosting industry. Using this control panel, you can seamlessly migrate a website from any hosting provider to WebHostingPeople. This process of moving a website is commonly referred to as migration, regardless of the control panel being used.

If you have a cPanel website, it will be associated with a cPanel account. It can either be the primary domain of the account or an addon domain. In this tutorial, we assume that you have a Standard Web Hosting package with us, and we will guide you through the steps of migrating a full cPanel account from HostGator to WebHostingPeople.

cPanel migration from HostGator to WebHostingPeople

1) Sign in to HostGator cPanel

Access your cPanel interface at HostGator. You can log in to cPanel by appending the cPanel port after a colon (“:”).

For example: https://yourdomain.com:2083

Please ensure that the domain is correctly pointing to HostGator servers. If not, you will need to replace the domain name with the hostname of the server where your website is hosted or the IP address of the same server.

2) Creating a Backup

Click on the “Backup” icon under the “Files” category. This action will take you to the next page where you can select the type of backup you want to perform. Please refer to the screenshot below.

On the next page, click the “Download a Full Website Backup” button. This will generate a backup of the entire cPanel account and save it to a chosen location. The available locations are as follows:

1) Home directory
2) Remote FTP server
3) Remote FTP server (passive mode Transfer)
4) SCP

The best option is the Home directory. Select the Home directory option and provide an email address to receive a notification email once the backup generation is completed. This is shown in the screenshot below.

3) Initiating the backup process

After selecting the backup location, click the “Generate Backup” button.

The download will commence, and you will receive an email notification when the backup is completed.

4) Downloading the backup

Once you receive the notification email, move the backup to the /home/public_html/ directory and set the permissions of the backup file to 644. This can be done in cPanel >> Files >> File Manager. Now, you can download the website to your computer by accessing http://yourdomain.com/backup_file.tar.gz, where “yourdomain.com” is the primary domain name of your cPanel account, and backup_file.tar.gz is the cPanel backup you have just created.

After downloading the backup, you need to upload it to your WebHostingPeople hosting.

5) Uploading the backup to WebHostingPeople
