Migrating a cPanel website to WebHostingPeople is a simple process. cPanel, a popular control panel in the web hosting industry, is used to manage your hosting. You can easily transfer a website from any hosting provider to WebHostingPeople using this control panel. Regardless of the control panel, this process is commonly referred to as migration.

For a cPanel website, it will be associated with a cPanel account. This account can either be the primary domain or an addon domain. In this guide, we will assume that you have a Standard Web Hosting package with us and we will demonstrate how to migrate a complete cPanel account from A2 Hosting to WebHostingPeople.

Migrating cPanel from A2 Hosting to WebHostingPeople

1) Login to A2 Hosting cPanel

Access the A2 Hosting cPanel interface by appending the cPanel port number after the domain. For example: http://yourdomain.com:2082 or https://yourdomain.com:2083.

Ensure that your domain is correctly pointing to the A2 Hosting servers. If not, replace the domain name with the hostname or IP address of the server where your website is hosted.

2) Creating a Backup

Click on the “Backup” icon under the “Files” category. This will take you to the next page where you can select the type of backup you wish to create. Refer to the screenshot below.

On the next page, click on the “Download a Full Website Backup” button. This will generate a backup of the entire cPanel account and save it in a chosen location. The available locations are:

1) Home directory
2) Remote FTP server
3) Remote FTP server (passive mode transfer)
4) SCP

The recommended option is the Home directory. Select this option and provide an email address to receive a notification when the backup generation is complete. Refer to the screenshot below.

3) Initiating the Backup Process

After selecting the backup location, click on the “Generate Backup” button.

The download will begin and you will receive an email notification when the backup is complete.

4) Downloading the Backup

Once you receive the notification email, move the backup file to the /home/public_html/ location. Change the permissions of the backup file to 644. You can do this in cPanel >> Files >> File Manager. Now, download the website to your computer by accessing http://yourdomain.com/backup_file.tar.gz. Replace “yourdomain.com” with the primary domain name of your cPanel account and “backup_file.tar.gz” with the cPanel backup that was created.

After downloading the backup, you will need to upload it to your WebHostingPeople hosting.

5) Uploading the Backup to WebHostingPeople

Refer to the guide below to upload the website using FileZilla, an FTP client.

Now that your backup is uploaded to our servers, open a support ticket requesting the restoration of the backup file. Our support team will assist you with the restoration process. To open a ticket, visit https://my.WebHostingPeople.net >> Support >> Open New Ticket.
